As predicted, there were breaking news at the Formnext tradeshow about additive manufacturing. Traditionally, the Prusa Research team launches their product of the year right on or just before the tradeshow; this year was no exception. Everyone expected something, but what exactly, was a big surprise. The Prusa CORE One, a fully enclosed CoreXY 3D printer, was launched with a bang directly at the tradeshow. This machine was instantly deemed as an answer to the known brand X1C machine. Let’s have a quick look at the machine’s main features, why it was so well received, and discuss what happens next.

Price and Features
Price: €1,384 Assembled, €1,084 Kit, €489 Upgrade Kit for MK4S
– Sustainability. Thanks to the well-defined sustainability approach that the Prusa Research team adopted many years ago, they continue to win the hearts (and awards) of the 3D printing community. The ability to convert an existing MK4S into a new machine is another well-received feature. The CORE One is also designed to be highly modifiable and repairable.
– Design. Bigger print volume with a smaller footprint. In recent years, compact CoreXY printers have gained popularity within the maker community. Similar-built machines like the BambuLab X1C and Creality K1 enjoyed their moment. This design is not only practical in many cases but also visually appealing. A neatly built-in enclosure also enhances safety during operation.
– MMU3 and Add Ons. Compatible with MMU3, camera add-on, and filtration system add-on, there’s no doubt that Prusa Research’s consumer FDM printers remain highly customizable, able to work with multiple existing and future add-ons.
Here’s our cheeky (unofficial) prediction: MMU4 or MMU5 will be designed to sit on top of the CORE One to meet the needs of a small footprint design.
– Connectivity. Many companies and individuals are sensitive about transferring data via the cloud. With this in mind, CORE printers, like other Prusa3D products, offer full control over connectivity with robust security options.
– Exceptional Customer Support. In the autumn of 2016, our team at 3DWithUs had real experience dealing with customer support when Prusa Research faced limited manufacturing capacity. Official fulfilment took six weeks, and the delivery of our purchased MK2 printer was delayed by two weeks. Despite these challenges, we received exceptional customer support service.
Overall, the price is higher than most budget 3D printers on the market but remains competitive with similar build machines like the Bambu Lab X1C and Creality K2.
PrusaSlicer and Printables
Just a quick reminder to our readers that Prusa Research is the team behind developing and pushing the Printables repository platform and PrusaSlicer software to new levels. Owning a Prusa machine is like joining, being a part of, and participating in a positive, helpful community.
Custom Builds
We will stay up to date by publishing official and custom Prusa CORE builds, showcasing existing models and outstanding future designs. Undoubtedly, just as with the Prusa MK series, there will be remarkable custom builds and third-party upgrades for the Prusa CORE in the future.
A few days after the official announcement, a highly sophisticated build for the CORE One was published on social media, with a design that speaks for itself.
Just look at the video published on X directly from the Formnext tradeshow, where Josef Průša is personally showcasing the design concept. Awesome!

As usual, we will look for new custom designs and mention them here. Contact us if you want your design featured here.
Conclusion
It’s clear why the 3D printing community celebrated the launch of the Prusa CORE One. Many of us who have witnessed the launches of the Prusa MKs, Prusa MMU, Prusa Mini, and Prusa XL are reminiscing about the good old days and sincerely hoping for a repeat of that feeling. Prusa Research has made a giant leap forward, revolutionizing hobbyist 3D printing. The success of CORE One would indicate that there is more to come.
Apologies for the poorly taken picture from the tradeshow. I tried a few times but couldn’t get a better shot due to the large crowd 🙂
